Buck-A-Neer
Buck Henry’s Baits
Warren, OH
1952
Every November, many Minnesota deer hunters dream of getting that big buck. So, for this month’s Lure Of The Month, I am featuring the “Buck-A-Neer” fishing lure made in Ohio.

Shortly after WWII, “Buck” Henry began carving wooden lures for fishing on local lakes. They worked so well, he began to sell some of these carved lures to local fisherman in 1946. Seeing a business opportunity, Buck Henry Baits was founded.

In 1948 he applied for a patent for his fishing lure and it was finally granted in 1952. By this time (in 1950), the lures switched from being made out of wood to being a plastic bait. The plastic lures featured large bulging yellow eyes and I believe the colors were limited. The most common colors I see are black/white and red/white. Many of he colors were "scaled", which meant they included some "glitter" on the bait. It was advertised as being a great bait for bass, pike, and muskie.

I am not sure how many of these baits were manufactured. I see them from time to time, but they are not overly common, so I think the number sold was relatively small.
