This month I will be featuring one of the most accurate fishing lure names I have ever seen, the Cat’s Paw.
Just like a cat’s claws, the hooks for the lure are internal to the wooden bait. Then, when a fish strikes and compresses the metal lever on the bottom of the bait…the hooks pop out and are exposed. Having the hooks internal made the bait weedless.
Although I have seen a number of these baits around over the years, they had a very short life in manufacturing. It was the only bait made by Hargrett and I don’t think it really caught on. I have tried one of these baits fishing…and I can’t seem to hook anything with it. It seems like the weeds were not the only thing it wasn’t hooking….
The bait is quite large…over three inches long and quite wide. Maybe it will only work with fish that are quite large. It was only available in a few colors and a someone plain box (pictured).
